tech level Filter Dries
CONSTRUCTION
The
external casing is manufactured entirely from steel EN 10130 – DC04,
while the connections are made from copper‑plated steel. The body and
head are joined using MIG/TIG welding, producing a robust, seamless
structure. The indicator support is machined from free‑cutting steel,
and the indicator ring is made of brass. The outer shell is coated with over
70 μm of
powder paint,
ensuring complete protection against oxidation, and the connections are copper‑plated
for additional corrosion resistance.
In this
type of filter‑drier, the desiccant charge is non‑replaceable and
consists of a single Solid Core (SC) made of 3Å molecular sieve beads.
This configuration also provides a high level of mechanical filtration,
thanks to a special synthetic felt designed to minimize resistance to fluid
flow.
The product
range includes versions with SAE flare threaded connections and solder
connections.
INSTALLATION
Installing
the unit is essential to safeguard the system from moisture, acids, and
solid contaminants, all of which can reduce overall efficiency and
potentially cause severe damage to the compressor and other system components.
The filter‑drier
may be mounted vertically or horizontally, although a vertical
orientation with the flow directed downward is recommended to prevent oil
or sludge accumulation. In every case, the flow direction must match the
arrow indicated on the product label.
APPLICATION
The
hermetic SCMI filter‑driers are classified as “Vessels” under PED
Directive 2014/68/EU, Article 2, paragraph 2.
The PLUS
line is designed for use with nearly all commonly available refrigerants,
i.e., fluids classified in Article 13, paragraph 1 of the PED Directive
as Group 1 and Group 2. Many of these refrigerants are listed in Annex
E of EN 378‑1 as Class A1, A2L, and A3.
Supported
refrigerants include: • HFC: R32, R404A, R407C, R410A, R507 • HFO:
R1234ze, R1234yf • HFC/HFO blends: R448A, R449A, R450A, R452A, R452B,
R454B, R454C, R513A • HC: R290, R600, R600a, R1270
In
accordance with Directive 2014/68/EU, the hazard classification of the product
is determined by: • the type of fluid used, • the intrinsic dimensions
(internal volume), • the maximum allowable working pressure (PS).
According
to Table 1 of Annex II of the PED Directive, all products fall under Article
4.3 and therefore must not bear the CE mark, even though they comply
with the Directive.
All
products also comply with STATUTORY INSTRUMENTS 2016 No. 1105 – Pressure
Equipment (Safety) Regulations 2016, as amended by the Product Safety
and Metrology etc. (Amendment etc.) (EU Exit) Regulations 2019. Based on
their classification, all products fall under Regulation 8 and must
not bear the UKCA mark, even though they meet the requirements of the
Regulations.
